Columbia Photojournalist Snaps Up $250,000 Lottery Win

Claims Top Prize on Club Casino Scratch-off

Club CasinoA retired U.S. Air Force photographer visited Maryland Lottery headquarters last week with the best shot he’d taken in his long career – a lovely photo of a winning scratch-off. Luckily, for him, he also had the actual ticket in hand to prove the Lottery’s Club Casino scratch-off game has its first $250,000 top-prize winner.

Lottery luck found the Howard County man while he was running an errand last week in his wife’s car. He noticed it was running low on gas and stopped at a gas station to fuel up. While there, the 62-year-old picked out the Club Casino scratch-off because it is his wife’s favorite game. He scratched the ticket off in the store and was stunned at what he saw.

“This can’t be real,” the Columbia resident remembers saying to himself. He waited until no other customers remained in the store before asking the clerk to check his ticket. The clerk happily confirmed his win!

“I’ve been all over the world in the military, seen all manner of amazing and terrible things, but for the first time ever, I got a little weak in the knees,” the winner said. The married father of four grown children still works for the military as a civilian photojournalist. He and his wife plan to spend some of the jackpot traveling to parts of the country he didn’t get to see during his military career.

Their journeys began with the Club Casino ticket purchased at the Arundel Mills Exxon at 7043 Arundel Mills Boulevard in Hanover. Three more top-prize winning tickets are in Maryland stores awaiting discovery.
