Top-prize ticket purchased at Decanter Fine Wines
A Columbia player’s commitment to playing Bonus Match 5 resulted in winning the $50,000 top prize – twice.
“It’s my favorite game,” said the 87-year-old player after claiming his $15,015 prize from the Jan. 5 drawing with his wife by his side. He also won the game’s big prize several years ago. Since then, Bonus Match 5 has been his go-to game, though he plays Pick 3 and Pick 4 a couple of times a week.
“I don’t have much luck with the other games,” he said, adding that he picks up the occasional win of a few dollars to a couple hundred dollars on Pick 3 and Pick 4.
The two had made no decisions about what they’ll do with the windfall, although household and family projects are the most targets for the big win. Also, they are planning a celebration dinner.
“He can buy dinner tonight and have it delivered,” said the lucky player’s wife.
“I don’t enjoy going out as much as I used to,” the husband said, affirming his partner’s preference. The Howard County resident does plan to continue playing, with a renewed commitment to Bonus Match 5, and high hopes of collecting a third top prize.
For selling a top-tier winning Bonus Match 5 ticket, retailer Decanter Fine Wines at 6420 Freetown Road in Columbia receives a bonus of $500 from the Lottery. The bonus is equal to 1 percent of the prize.
