Construction Worker Digs Up $50,000-Winning Gold Scratch-off

Hyattsville man takes home top prize on new game

A Prince George’s County man is proof that it only takes one Maryland Lottery instant ticket to win big.

Last week after work, he decided to stop by the 7-Eleven in Hyattsville for a scratch-off and selected the new $5 Gold game, which went on sale Sept. 25.

The 50-year-old took the instant ticket home to scratch and reported that he couldn’t believe it when he revealed the game’s $50,000 top prize. The lucky construction worker came to Lottery headquarters today, accompanied by his son, to claim his big windfall. For now, the excited Hyattsville resident plans to save his winnings.

The lucky Lottery retailer that sold the winning ticket wins big, too! The 7-Eleven #29720 located at 2000 E. East West Highway in Hyattsville earned a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling the $50,000 winning Gold scratch-off.

This is the second top prize claimed on the Gold ticket, which has eight more $50,000 prizes awaiting discovery. A Glen Burnie man found the first top-prize instant ticket in the game last week. Players can discover thousands of other prizes ranging from $5 to $5,000 in the game.
