Frederick County man claims $50,000 prize on Neon X10 scratch-off
A spur-of-the-moment Maryland Lottery scratch-off purchase is paying plenty of dividends for a Frederick County man, although you won’t hear him talking about it.
The construction worker is keeping mum about his $50,000 top-prize win on a Neon x10 instant ticket. He found his Lottery luck after stopping for gas at Sheetz #242 in Frederick. While at the register paying for his fuel, the loyal player decided to buy a $5 Neon x10 scratch-off. The 55-year-old scratched the ticket at work and quickly realized he had won one of the game’s $50,000 top prizes. However, there was no celebration: He’s kept the win a secret from everyone – even his family!
The lucky winner said he buys about $25 worth of scratch-off tickets each week. His largest previous win was a $6,000 prize and occurred about 20 years ago.
“I don’t do the number games because I can’t pick them,” he said. “But with the scratch-offs, I figure it’s a matter of right place, right time. If you pick the right one, you’ve got it.”
Because he picked the “right one” last week, the happy winner will pay off his car and put money in the bank for savings. The Sheetz store located at 1600 Rosemont Ave. in Frederick is a winner as well. For selling the top-prize scratch-off, the retailer will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery. Neon X10 was launched in May, and three of its $50,000 top prizes are still unclaimed along with seven $5,000 prizes.
