Gold Hard Cash scratch-off delivers surprise win

A construction worker from Essex just unearthed the biggest Maryland Lottery scratch-off prize of his life – $10,000!

Brandon York is a loyal player who favors Royal Farms stores as his Lottery retailers of choice and prefers $5 or $10 scratch-off games. He’s built a roster of small wins capped by his biggest prize – $500 – until now.

On the day Lottery luck came to call, Brandon stopped at the Royal Farms store located at 627 Mace Avenue in Baltimore. The Gold Hard Cash scratch-off caught his eye.

“I bought three of a different game and this was my fourth ticket,” he said. “I always scratch them off in the store and I scratched the whole card and saw the numbers matched. I thought it was maybe a $500 winner.”

When he scratched off the prize amounts on the $10 game, however, his amazement grew. He’s really digging his $10,000 prize!

“I was like, ‘Wow! This is pretty awesome,’ ” said the 35-year-old father of three. He shared the great news with his parents and, having the day off from work, headed straight to Lottery headquarters in Baltimore to claim his prize. “I figured I’d take care of it and make it easy,” he said.

The Baltimore County resident plans to pay off bills with his prize.

The Gold Hard Cash game launched in September and has plenty of winning tickets left in Lottery retailers’ stores. Look for three of the remaining $100,000 top prizes and two more $10,000 second-tier prizes.
