Jeffrey Anderson is having a serious run of good luck with the Maryland Lottery’s Ultimate Cash scratch-off.

The Edgewater resident has won $500 and $1,000 on the $5 instant ticket and, this week, became the first player to claim one of its $50,000 top prizes.

Jeffrey purchased the lucky scratch-off at 7-Eleven #39130 in Edgewater, took it home and scratched it in his garage. All it took was a few seconds before he found that the ticket’s winning coin symbol corresponded to a $50,000 prize.

“I just started screaming,” Jeffrey said. “I started screaming and I’m pretty sure my neighbors must have thought something was going on.”

He called his girlfriend to give her the great news and had to convince her that his win was real. “She thought I was lying,” he said.

The 51-year-old kept his lucky scratch-off in his safe until he came to Lottery headquarters a week later to claim his prize. The construction worker said he plans to use his prize to purchase a new motor and perform other restoration work on his car – a 1988 Ford Mustang GT.

The Ultimate Cash ticket launched in June and five of its six $50,000 top prizes have yet to be claimed. There are also 10 unclaimed $5,000 prizes. Jeffrey’s retailer is a winner as well. For selling the top-prize winning ticket, the 7-Eleven located at 3080 Solomons Island Road in Edgewater will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery.
