Convenience Store Employee Finds First Big Cash Winner

Five $50,000 prizes remaining on the Maryland Lottery scratch-off

Big Cash MultiplierA hard-working convenience store employee had just finished a long shift last Thursday when she decided to treat herself to a Maryland Lottery scratch-off on her way home.

The Waldorf woman picked out the $5 bright orange Big Cash ticket. “I only had $5 to spend and that ticket stood out,” she told Lottery officials.

When the 53-year-old finished scratching her ticket in the store, she thought she had a big winner on her hands. “I went over to the clerk and asked what happened,” she said. After taking the ticket home to show her husband and adult daughter, she and her family celebrated. “We called our son, but he didn’t believe us,” her husband said.

The lucky Charles County woman plans to buy a modestly priced new car. “One day, I would like to open my own store. The rest of the money will be saved for when that day comes,” she said.

The woman picked up her Big Cash winner at Holiday Liquors located in 3385 Leonardtown Road in Waldorf. This new scratch-off arrived in area stores on Nov. 18 and has five $50,000 top-prize winning tickets and more than a dozen $5,000 winning tickets still waiting for discovery.
