“Rich!” rewards for retiree: This Thurmont man won a $50,000 top prize on the new Home Run Riches scratch-off!
Wins second $50,000 top prize on new Home Run Riches scratch-off
A Western Marylander has put another Home Run Riches tally on the Maryland Lottery scratch-off scoreboard. The 73-year-old Thurmont man hit it out of the park with the new $5 game this week, winning its $50,000 top prize.
Lucky “Rich!” is an unassuming retiree who still works part time at an area junkyard and recycling facility. He purchased the ticket at Getgo #3843 from Giant Eagle in Frederick. “Rich!” bought the ticket from the busy gas and convenience store’s vending machine instead of from the counter as a courtesy to the store clerks and patrons.
When he discovered his big win, “Rich!” exited the store quietly and headed for his car. He only shared news of his good fortune with an old friend before heading to Lottery headquarters in Baltimore to claim his prize.
The lucky player’s largest win to date was $1,000, so his recent luck put him in a state of shock. “Rich!” said most of the prize will go into his retirement savings. Because he believes in sharing his luck, “Rich!” also plans to surprise his co-workers with $50 each.
His lucky retailer, GetGo located at 1391 West Seventh Street in Frederick, is also a winner. For selling the game’s $50,000 top prize, the retailer will earn a $500 bonus from the Lottery.
This win is the second $50,000 top prize awarded. Four more top prizes remain. The game gives players two chances to win cash prizes. They can win up to $50,000 with the instant ticket or win by entering non-winning scratch-offs in the Contestant of the Game second-chance contest available through My Lottery Rewards. One winner will be selected for each Baltimore Orioles regular season game. Winners receive $500 for being selected, and an additional $500 for each home run scored by an Orioles player during the contestant’s game. The first entry deadline for this contest is March 26.
