Frederick man claims $10,000 prize on extended-play game
Maryland Lottery scratch-off fan from Frederick who enjoys playing extended-play games like bingo and Monopoly now has a new favorite – crossword games! He recently hit $10,000 playing the Crossword Deluxe scratch-off game.
The 60-year-old retiree stopped at Ballenger Creek Pike Exxon in Frederick on a Saturday to pick up some scratch-offs to enjoy playing at home while drinking his morning coffee and reading the newspaper.
“I scratched letter after letter, realizing that I had a winner,” he said. “I thought it was for $1,000.” On Sunday morning, he returned to the Lottery retailer to cash the instant ticket but learned that his prize was so large he had to instead claim it at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. “They told me it was $10,000, not $1,000,” he said.
Excited, the father of two adult children went home to share the great news with close friends and family members. The Frederick County resident said the $1,000 prize that he initially thought he had won was going to help with Christmas. The $10,000 prize will really make it a “good” Christmas, he said. The happy winner also plans to save some of his winnings.
The $10 Crossword Deluxe game still has plenty of prizes awaiting discovery at Lottery retailers. In addition to one more $100,000 top prize, the game has three more $10,000 prizes and thousands of others ranging from $10 to $1,000. To visit the Frederick winner’s lucky retailer, stop by Ballenger Creek Pike Exxon located at 5870 Ballenger Creek Pike in Frederick.
