Crossword Scratch-off Fan Claims $50,000 Top Prize

Baltimore man wins playing Deluxe Crossword instant ticket

A major Maryland Lottery scratch-off fan was at home cleaning on Sunday when he decided to take a break and have some fun. The Baltimore resident headed to Chris Liquor & Grill for a bite to eat and to play Deluxe Crossword, which is one of his favorite scratch-off games. He came home a very satisfied customer!

The 68-year-old purchased three of the of the $5 crossword scratch-offs and played them in the store. “Crosswords and bingos are my favorite,” he said. “You can take your time to the play them and they’re just fun.”

The loyal player told Lottery officials that the fun part really kicked in when he saw that his third instant ticket was a winner.

“There were those red words, one after the other,” he said, smiling. “I knew I had something going on.” And, boy, did he! He revealed six red words, which guarantees a top prize of $50,000! But, to make sure he had won, the player asked the cashier to check the ticket. Yes, indeed, the clerk said, he “got a good one.”

“That made my whole day,” said the happy husband.

The lucky winner went home and kept his fabulous secret to himself. He made sure to secure the winning instant ticket in a folder and placed it next to his bed.

What are his plans for his windfall? The scratch-off fan will pay bills with his prize and share some of the winnings with his family.

The lucky retailer is a winner, too. For selling the top-prize scratch-off in the game, Chris Liquor & Grill located at 1269 Washington Boulevard in Baltimore will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery.
