Baltimore man wins $10,000
A Baltimore man who has tried just about every game the Maryland Lottery has to offer over the years said he always returns to crossword-style instant tickets as his go-to game. The youth counselor’s choice paid off with a $10,000 prize.
“I picked out the Deluxe Crossword game and took it home to play,” said the 61-year-old winner. “It seems like I’ve played it a million times. I’m that familiar with how it works, so when I saw the number of words I was uncovering, I knew something special was happening.”
Despite that familiarity with the game and despite what he was seeing, the loyal player remained unconvinced about his win. “Half of my brain was telling me that I’d won $10,000 but the other half was saying no,” he said. “It took some time for me to accept that it was real.”
It hardly took any time at all, however, to decide how to spend his winnings. “I hadn’t even really caught my breath yet when I could see myself depositing the Lottery check in the bank,” he said. “I’ve always been a saver, have always wanted to have extra cash in case of problems. I’ll soon have a bigger rainy day fund than I ever expected.”
The owners of Paradise Liquors at 2223 Pennsylvania Avenue in Baltimore, which is where he found his winning scratch-off, are sure to see our winner’s face again. “Once I’ve had luck in a place, I tend to go back. That’s my plan now,” he said. “I want that $50,000 top prize.”
The $5 Crossword Deluxe game has four of those $50,000 top prizes remaining along with 10 $10,000 prizes and thousands of others ranging from $5 to $1,000.
