Cruise for Cash Facebook Picture Proves To Be an Omen

Loyal Lottery player wins 9-day cruise vacation from scratch-off’s second-chance contest

Charlotte Weber - Cruise for CashWhen Charlotte and Robert Weber attended the Maryland Lottery’s Cruise for Cash Bash this past January, they were hoping to walk away with something exciting.  They didn’t win a prize that day but did leave with fun memories and a picture in front of the Cruise for Cash backdrop that Charlotte posted on her Facebook page.  Perhaps this was an omen of things to come; Charlotte was randomly selected to win a cruise vacation in the Maryland Lottery’s Cruise for Cash second-chance contest.

Charlotte, a program management specialist at the University of Maryland from Baltimore, and her husband Robert laughingly told Lottery officials this afternoon that her Facebook friends saw the picture she had posted from the Cruise for Cash event and believed she had won a cruise.  She received several congratulatory messages and had to keep responding that she didn’t win a cruise.  “This was from a Lottery party I attended!”  Now she is looking forward to telling people that she actually did win a cruise.

The Webers have been happily married for almost 30 years; they have two children and two grandchildren.  The family-oriented couple came to Lottery Headquarters this afternoon after attending a “grandparents’ tea” at their granddaughter Abby’s school and laughed while she excitedly zipped around the room.  They’re not sure when they will take the trip – they are already booked for an Alaskan trip for their 30th anniversary celebration.  “We know it’s there and are looking forward to spending a wonderful vacation together.”

Partnering with Royal Caribbean International, the Maryland Lottery launched Cruise for Cash on January 10, 2011. The $5 scratch-off features seven $50,000 instant top prizes, as well as 31 instant cruise vacations and a second-chance contest.  Players may enter the contest by mailing in a non-winning Cruise for Cash scratch-off or by entering online at mdlottery.com/cruise.  The second-chance prize includes a nine-night cruise vacation for two, on any one of Royal Caribbean’s cruise ships departing from the Port of Baltimore.  The winner will also receive a $1,000 onboard credit. One drawing will take place each month through July.
