Curiosity Pays Off with $50,000 Scratch-off Win

Rosa Moran of Delaware is shopping for the holidays and for a house with her $50,000 scratch-off win.

Delaware woman claims top prize on Diamonds & Gold Doubler game

A sudden “urge” to purchase a Maryland Lottery scratch-off at lunchtime sent Rosa Moran of Delaware into a Dash In convenience store on the Eastern Shore. That “urge” paid off with a $50,000 top-prize win on one of her favorite instant tickets, the $5 Diamonds & Gold Doubler.

“I was just sitting at the table having lunch, when I just had an urge to go out and get a scratch-off,” said the lucky 48-year-old. Instead of purchasing one instant ticket as she normally does, Rosa indulged her curiosity and bought three scratch-offs.

“I’ve never won this big, just small amounts like $25 to $50,” Rosa said. Sitting in the parking lot, the Frankford resident scratched all three instant tickets while hoping for a big win. The first two scratch-offs were non-winners, but the last ticket made her dream a reality. The Sussex County woman revealed a star symbol, which indicated she automatically won.

“I was very happy and even cried a little bit,” Rosa said. “I was so excited that when I got home, I missed the entrance to my house!”

Rosa plans to use her winnings for holiday gifts for her nieces and nephews and some Black Friday shopping. The rest of her prize may go toward the down payment on a house.

Plenty of prizes remain in this game, which went on sale in March. Diamonds & Gold Doubler has three remaining $50,000 top prizes and thousands of others ranging from $5 to $5,000.

Also celebrating the big win is the Worcester County Dash In located at 7201 Main Street in Willards. The lucky Lottery retailer earns a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling a top-prize winning scratch-off in the game.
