Claims nearly $50,000 prize on three tickets
A Washington, D.C. man is counting his lucky stars – and his lucky cash, thanks to the Maryland Lottery! The 52-year-old government contractor won $2,500 playing Mega Millions on March 10 and, amazingly enough, returned to Lottery headquarters to cash two Mega Millions tickets from the March 13 drawing worth more than $47,000.
“This is so shocking to me,” said our excited winner. He found his Lottery luck at the 29 Convenience Mart in Silver Spring. He told Lottery officials that he’s not only shocked about winning but about how he won. Each time he came up a winner, he played numbers relating to his best friend.
“The first time I won this week, I used numbers that I picked from her license plate and now I’m back two days later because I played part of her birth date,” he said. “I had no idea that I’d be a big winner back-to-back like this.”
The loyal player, who has lived in the District of Columbia for over 20 years, won the bulk of his fortune by playing the same numbers 10 times and adding the Megaplier. The winning numbers for March 13 were 8-22-30-42-45 and Mega Ball 3 with a five times Megaplier. He was just one number shy of winning a $42 million jackpot.
He told Lottery officials that he plans to financially help his friend, who is currently unemployed, along with his mother. He also will donate to his church.
His lucky retailer, 29 Convenience Mart, is located at 10755 Colesville Road in Silver Spring.
