Halethorpe resident scratches her way to top prize on 10x Cash ticket

A month after turning 19, Taylor Carroll got a belated birthday present on Saturday when she and her grandmother bought a couple of Maryland Lottery 10x Cash scratch-off tickets at Catonsville Liquors, 6124 Edmonson Ave., in Baltimore.

While her grandmother’s ticket only yielded a $10 win, Taylor’s luck was significantly better, as her ticket paid her a top prize of $10,000.

“I didn’t think it was real,” Taylor said as she sat next to her grandmother on Monday morning at Maryland Lottery headquarters after claiming her prize. “I thought it was one of those fake tickets.”

Her reaction?

“It was about 20 ‘Oh my Gods!’” said her grandmother, a frequent Lottery player who let Taylor pick which tickets to play on Saturday. “She’s my good luck charm. I’m hoping I can win the Multi-Match now.”

Taylor said she picked out 10x Cash tickets because she had never seen them before and likes to try new games. 10x Cash launched on March 23 and started with 85 top prizes of $10,000. Sixty of those top prizes have not yet been claimed.

With her prize money, Taylor said she is planning to further her education. She currently works at a daycare center and said she is hoping to enroll in a course to become a certified nursing assistant.
