The “Queen of Crosswords” in Linthicum won $10,000 on a Super Crossword scratch-off

Linthicum woman scratches off letters two by two

The self-dubbed “Queen of Crosswords” in Linthicum takes almost all day to scratch off her daily Maryland Lottery crossword game.

“I scratch two letters off every hour or so,” said the 51-year-old. “I love crosswords and I like to make the game last!”

On the day a Super Crossword scratch-off delivered a $10,000 prize, the instant ticket fan didn’t know until evening that her $10 purchase carried a prize. She went to one of her two favorite Lottery retailers the next morning to verify the size of her win, only to learn that she needed to report to Lottery headquarters in Baltimore to claim her prize.

“I really did not know how much I had won,” said the Anne Arundel County resident. She downloaded the Maryland Lottery app and discovered her prize was $10,000! The “Queen of Crosswords” told her employer she needed to take an extended lunch and marched right into Lottery headquarters to claim her prize. The timing of her win is perfect, she said, because she will use the money to catch up on bills.

The lucky retailer who sold her the winning instant ticket was Camp Meade Liquors located at 452 North Camp Meade Road in Linthicum. The “Queen of Crosswords” and other players still have plenty of prizes to try to win in the Super Crossword game. There are four unclaimed $100,000 top prizes, 19 more $10,000 prizes and thousands of others ranging from $10 to $1,000.
