Marcos Pelaez of Hyattsville found his lucky win at his favorite Lottery retailer, David’s Liquors. |
Following the saying, “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again” certainly paid off for Marcos Pelaez of Hyattsville. His dedication to playing Maryland Lottery games and a brush with Lottery luck gave this happy father a $200,000 top-prize win.
“Originally, I thought there was no way that I won that much money,” said the 76-year-old player. Many players dream of winning “the big one” and greeting Maryland Lottery staff in the Winner’s Circle. That dream came true for Marcos when he stopped at David’s Liquors in Hyattsville. The store is one of his favorite Lottery retailers and he decided to try his luck with the $200,000 Jackpot scratch-off.
What made him choose this $10 game? “I was just looking at the ticket, pointed at it and just scratched away,” he said. Marcos realized his instant ticket carried the number 20, which matched one of the game’s winning numbers. Originally thinking this meant he won $200, Marcos showed the scratch-off to his niece and she told him he actually won $200,000. His son also confirmed the big win.
The Prince George’s County resident plans to save his prize for future endeavors. Because this is a top-prize winning scratch-off, David’s Liquors at 7025 Annapolis Road earns a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery.
The $200,000 Jackpot game still has one more top prize, three more $20,000 prizes and nine $10,000 prizes, along with thousands of others.
