Deli Clerk Slicing Up A $10,000 Scratch-off Prize

Wins playing a Maximum Money scratch-off

A 63-year-old deli clerk from Baltimore didn’t have to look far for some extra “bread” when she finished work recently. She won $10,000 playing a Maximum Money scratch-off bought at the nearby Canton Market.

The city resident visited the Lottery retailer, which is located at 2334 Boston Street in Baltimore, to pick out several scratch-offs to play later.

“I decided to buy a few of the Maximum Money scratch-off because I had never really played it and I like trying out the new scratch-offs,” she said. “I figured I’d scratch my tickets when I got home and when I had time to relax.”

She was sitting in her living room, scratching off her instant tickets, when she saw that practically all of the numbers on the top row of a Maximum Money scratch-off matched that game’s winning numbers.

“When I realized the amount of money the ticket was saying I had won, all I could say was ‘Oh my gosh’ and then my husband and I just kept staring at the winning ticket.”

Although this is her first time as a $10,000 winner, the lucky lady is no stranger to Lottery wins. She’s won several hundred dollars in prizes over the years and, in 2001, found a $1,000 prize on another scratch-off.

The loyal scratch-off player plans to put a small portion of her prize money toward an inexpensive day trip and save the rest. “The rest of the dough is going straight into my savings account for a rainy day.”

The Maximum Money scratch-off has seven unclaimed $100,000 top prizes and 29 more $10,000 second-tier prizes, in addition to thousands of other prizes ranging from $10 to $1,000.
