Helping others have beautiful smiles is all in a day’s work for Odalys Cruz Reyes, a dental assistant who lives near Silver Spring. The Maryland Lottery gave her 50,000 reasons to smile when she won $50,000 playing a Deluxe Crossword scratch-off.
The Prince George’s County resident found Lottery luck waiting for her at Riverdale BP in Riverdale, where she stopped to pick up scratch-offs to play later that night after dinner. After looking over the variety of instant tickets on display, Odalys bought several of the $5 Deluxe Crossword games. The 20-year-old would soon discover that her 15-minute stop had made her $50,000 richer!
“At first, I didn’t know which ones to get,” she said. “When I saw how pretty the design on the Crossword Deluxe ticket looked, I just had to have it. I am thrilled that those were some of my favorite colors on the ticket and that I love playing crossword games.”
This is her biggest prize on scratch-offs, which are her favorite Lottery game. “I think that up to this point, I had only won a few hundred dollars playing scratch-offs,” she said. “I had a feeling that I’d be winning big at some point.”
The excited winner plans to buy a reliable new car with her prize and put the rest into savings.
For selling a top-prize scratch-off in the game, Riverdale BP located at 5500 Kenilworth Avenue will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery.
The Deluxe Crossword instant ticket is a new $5 scratch-off that went on sale this month. It still has six unclaimed $50,000 top prizes and 16 more $10,000 second-tier prizes, in addition to thousands of other prizes ranging from $5 to $1,000.
