Orchard Beach resident wins $250,000
Orchard Beach resident Michael Backoff became determined to win the $250,000 top prize on the Ravens Cash Fantasy scratch-off and, like the Super Bowl champion Ravens, let nothing get in his way.
Michael, who is a dental implant manager, began his journey while visiting his local Lottery retailer. Michael noticed the Lottery’s interactive messaging system (LIMs) displayed a message alerting players that the scratch-off still had two remaining top prizes and a dwindling percentage of unsold tickets. When he couldn’t find tickets for the game, he started calling retailers all around Anne Arundel County. Finally, last week, he tracked down tickets in a Glen Burnie location, rushed over and purchased them all!

His scratch-a-thon began late Sunday evening. Michael and his adult daughter, Sabrina, got busy scratching tickets. When he scratched off the big winner, he just knowingly smiled. Sabrina saw the grin and jumped out of her chair in excitement.
They rushed upstairs to share the news with Charlene, Michael’s wife of 30 years. Once Charlene realized she wasn’t dreaming, she joined them and they surprised the rest of the family with the news. They walked down the street to tell their eldest daughter, Tabitha, about their good fortune and then drove to visit Charlene’s mother as their final stop of the evening.
Although he had only won $100 with the scratch-off before, the 50-year-old was still very collected when he scratched off the top-prize. Michael described the feeling of being the big winner as reassuring since the prize money will help the family with Sabrina’s college tuition and other needs. “It’s nice not to have to worry about money as much,” he said.
Michael found his winning ticket at Ocean Wine & Spirits located on 7703 Baltimore-Annapolis Boulevard in Glen Burnie.
