Clinton man claims prize in Nov. 8 drawing
A loyal Maryland Lottery player left his dentist’s office last week and decided to give himself a sugar-free sweet treat – a Powerball ticket for the Nov. 8 drawing.
The federal government employee dropped by BK Miller’s Meats & Liquors located at 9024 Old Branch Avenue in Clinton and picked up one $2 quick-pick ticket. He didn’t watch the Powerball drawing that night and had no idea that his lucky ticket was the only one in Maryland to win a $50,000 prize!
The next time he visited that lucky Lottery retailer, he scanned his Powerball ticket on the ticket checker, and the odd message that showed on the display, “Cash at Lottery,” left him bewildered.
“I scanned it again and it said the same thing,” said the father of two. He called out to a store employee he knows and asked for help. His friend printed out the winning numbers, checked them against the ticket and quietly delivered great news: “Hey, man, you won $50,000!”
The astonished 54-year-old winner grabbed his ticket and the printout and went home, where he called his wife and urged her to hurry home, too. As soon as she arrived, he showed her the winning Powerball ticket. “I kept calm,” he reports, and even kept the ticket in his wallet for days until he could claim his prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.
The grandparents of one have planned a cruise with their adult children and will share their great news with them then. The Prince George’s County resident said the prize would probably go toward paying bills and home improvements.
Meanwhile, the Powerball jackpot just keeps rolling and he’ll keep playing! Tonight’s drawing is for a jackpot of $103 million with a cash option of $65.3 million. Our winner is also keeping a close eye on his two other favorite games, Multi-Match and Mega Millions. Multi-Match has a rolling jackpot of $1.4 million for Thursday’s drawing while Mega Millions players are vying for a $95 million jackpot in Friday’s drawing.
