Diamonds Are Baltimore Girl’s $50,000 Best Friend

Scratch-off fan takes home $50,000 prize on Diamond Spectacular game

They say diamonds are a girl’s best friend, and that definitely holds true for a 36-year-old Baltimore woman. Three months ago, she purchased a Diamond Spectacular scratch-off ticket that delivered a $50,000 prize.

The lucky winner and loyal scratch-off player said she prefers to play newer games, but on that day three months ago she chose the $20 Diamond Spectacular ticket and a $10 Super Crossword game, both of which launched last year.

After buying the tickets at the 7-Eleven store located at 401 East 33rd Street in Baltimore, she took them home to scratch them and found a pleasant surprise waiting for her on the Diamond Spectacular game.

“Oh my goodness,” said the Baltimore resident, who works as a cashier. “I knew right away it was a winner.”

Shortly after that, however, the winner received the unfortunate news that a family member had passed away. Claiming the $50,000 prize took a back seat as she waited a few months to grieve.

Once she felt up to it, the big winner headed to Lottery headquarters to claim her prize. The single mother of an adult child has been staying with a family member for the last few months to help out. But she said it’s time to move on, and she plans to use some of the $50,000 prize to get her own place to live and may also buy a new car.

The Diamond Spectacular scratch-off made its debut in May of 2016, and one of its $1 million top prizes remains unclaimed. The lucky winner claimed the last of the ticket’s $50,000 prizes, but there are also three remaining $10,000 prizes and thousands of additional prizes ranging from $20 to $5,000.
