Many Maryland Lottery players would agree with Racetrax winner Richard Joyner that having a $5 wager become a $15,252 prize is the stuff of dreams! His own dreams aided his big win, said the 51-year-old, who reports having dreamed all of his life of numbers that became lucky.
The Havre de Grace resident got lucky after placing a $5 Racetrax Superfecta bet using a few numbers — 4, 8, 5 and 6 — that appeared to him in a dream. The numbers were familiar because they appear on a form he often saw at work. The U.S. Army retiree spent nearly a decade in the service and still works with the Army at Aberdeen Proving Ground. During his service, the non-commissioned officer processed many 4856 Army Developmental Counseling Forms as soldiers progressed through their training.
In addition to dreaming about the four numbers, the devoted Racetrax player noticed 4856 had regularly appeared as a winning Keno and Racetrax combination. He researched past drawing results using the Lottery’s smartphone app.
After discussing the interesting 4856 number pattern with a friend and fellow Army veteran, Richard decided to try his luck. He gathered with a few fellow players at Aberdeen Sunoco for a cup of coffee and a race or two. Five drawings were all it took to put Richard back in the money. His last big Racetrax win was $39,697 in September.
“I saw a few of my familiar numbers and checked the results,” he said. A celebration erupted inside the small business when he saw his bet deliver the $15,252 prize.
“I’ve dreamt of numbers from dates, events and sports all my life. I just try to use them to my advantage,” Richard said.
In addition to enjoying the notoriety from his previous Lottery win, the Harford County resident said he had fun spending that prize. He took his family out for a decadent meal at an area Brazilian restaurant, for example. This time, he plans to use the funds to shed debt by paying off bills.
Could luck strike a third time for this lucky player? Richard said he has already dreamed of the numbers he will soon begin to play and is hoping for a quick return to the Winner’s Circle.
Look for Richard and his Racetrax pals at Aberdeen Sunoco located at 607 South Philadelphia Boulevard in Aberdeen. For selling a winning Racetrax ticket of $10,000 or more, the lucky Lottery retailer earns a $152.52 bonus from the Lottery. The bonus is equal to 1 percent of the prize.
