Dundalk Scratch-off Fan Finds $50,000 Top Prize

Discovers lucky win playing Gold Bar Bingo instant ticket

A longtime fan of the Maryland Lottery’s bingo scratch-offs recalls staring, in shock, at the sixth bingo card on his $5 Gold Bar Bingo instant ticket. The Dundalk man had just uncovered all of the numbers that formed an “X” on the card – and that meant he won the game’s $50,000 top prize.

“I stared in disbelief,” said the retiree. “I thought one day it would maybe happen but I couldn’t believe it when it did.”

The happy player said his big win tops his previous record prize of $500. The Baltimore County resident picked up his lucky game at Merritt BP Carwash in Dundalk, which is one of his favorite Lottery retailers. After playing the scratch-off at home and discovering the game’s top prize, the 78-year-old reports having a silent, stunned reaction to his big win.

“Who would have thought I’d find a $50,000 winning scratch-off in Dundalk?” he said.

The winner had no plans for how he will spend his prize but he did have plans for the rest of his day. “I’m going to go back out and get another bingo game,” he said. “I might get a $10 ticket this time!”

His lucky retailer shares in this win, which leaves four $50,000 top prizes unclaimed in the Gold Bar Bingo game. The Baltimore County BP station located at 800 Merritt Boulevard earns a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling a top-prize-winning scratch-off in the game. Gold Bar Bingo also has seven unclaimed $10,000 prizes and thousands of others ranging from $5 to $5,000.
