Wins $50,000 prize with taxes paid playing Bonus Match 5
A thrilled Dundalk woman came into Lottery Headquarters yesterday to claim her $50,000 Bonus Match 5 prize — taxes-paid. The long-time player excitedly told Lottery officials, “I won my fortune from a fortune cookie!”
During the Bonus Match 5 Doubler promotion, which runs through July 8, the Maryland Lottery will pay the estimated taxes on all Bonus Match 5 top prizes. Players also have the chance to double their winnings if they receive the word “Doubler” on the top of their Bonus Match 5 ticket.

The mother-of-two explained that she regularly orders take-out Chinese food and uses the numbers inside the fortune cookies to choose her Bonus Match 5 numbers each week. She checks Lottery results in the newspaper every Sunday morning and was shocked after seeing all of the numbers from the June 16 drawing matched hers. “I checked the numbers a few times and called my daughter and my brother immediately,” she said. “I couldn’t believe it!”
Retired from Baltimore County’s Department of Recreation and Parks after 30 years of service, the lucky winner shared that she’s living on a tight budget due to recent health issues. Plans for her winnings are still up in the air. “I have no idea what I’m going to do with the money,” she said. “I’m going to put it in the bank, let the excitement of my win sink in, and then use it as I need it.”
The winning ticket was purchased at High’s, located at 3045 Rogers Ave in Ellicott City.
