Retired truck driver wins top prize on Bingo Plus game
A retired truck driver from Caroline County found his outlook a bit more positive this week after playing a $5 Bingo Plus scratch-off. The Eastern Shore resident scratched one of the Maryland Lottery’s extended-play games and revealed a $50,000 top prize.
After a career spent improving lives by hauling and delivering household necessities with his truck, the 69-year-old says he’s become handy with a remote control and is making steady progress on an ever-growing honey-do list. Occasionally, he’ll pass the time with a Maryland Lottery scratch-off and that’s just what happened with the Bingo Plus game.
He returned home one day with the bingo-style scratch-off and began scratching it off after flipping on the television. The lucky player revealed the “callers numbers” first and then began to reveal spaces on the six bingo boards on his instant ticket. When he completed his final board, the lucky player had to check the game several times because he was astounded by what he saw. He had completed the game’s namesake “plus” play design, which meant he had won the $50,000 top prize!
“It’s just one of those things that’s hard to describe,” the winner said. “It was just unbelievable.”
The financially fit family man sees the big win as a bonus to the funds he has already saved for retirement. He plans to add the winnings to his family’s finances.
The Lottery retailer that sold the winning scratch-off, Wetcher Whistle in Federalsburg, is also celebrating. The Eastern Shore store located at 305 Bloomingdale Avenue will earn a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling a top-prize winning scratch-off.
