Claims Neon x20 game’s $100,000 top prize

Eastern Shore scratch-off fan Deatrice Copper can now say her hobby of playing Maryland Lottery instant tickets more than pays for itself. The grandmother of 15 won the $100,000 top prize on a Neon x20 game!

A longtime nursing assistant stopped by Happy Market in Cambridge on her way home from work to try her luck with a few scratch-offs. “I really enjoy them, they help me relax after a long day,” said the married mother of five. “I played two $10 games – those are my favorites – and didn’t win. I decided to play one more before going and Neon x20 was the only $10 ticket they had that I hadn’t tried.”

The 52-year-old was speechless when she uncovered the $100,000 marker beneath the only matching number on her ticket.

“It was stunning, of course, but I just wanted to get home fast, to share this with my husband and to call my family,” said the Cambridge woman. She kept her cool walking out of the store, drove home and delivered her good news.

Deatrice plans to spread the results of her Lottery luck among her grown children and grandkids. “We have a very happy life and don’t need that much, so this blessing is going to end up helping the people we love the most,” she said.

Her parents have not enjoyed many vacations over the years, Deatrice’s daughter said, and she hopes to convince them to spoil themselves with a nice trip.

Also celebrating their win is Happy Market located at 222 Washington Street in Cambridge. For selling the top-prize ticket in the game, the retailer will receive a $1,000 bonus. The Neon x20 game hit store shelves last May and still has one more $100,000 top prize awaiting discovery.
