Elkton Retiree Wins Bonus Match 5

Claims $50,000 top prize on popular game

A 72-year-old Elkton man never misses a day when it comes to playing his Lottery games. The engaged retiree likes them all, but Bonus Match 5 has risen to the top of the list because he just won its $50,000 top prize.

The former maintenance technician kept to his routine and played his favorite Lottery games on July 11 at Elkton Fairhill Services in Elkton before going out for the evening. He was having so much fun, he failed to watch the evening drawing. Wondering about the numbers, the lucky player checked them at a Lottery retailer the next morning. His $2 Bonus Match 5 ticket appeared to be a winner in the July 11 drawing.

“That machine didn’t tell me anything, so I asked the cashier to check it,” said the big winner. “I didn’t believe it when he told me it was for $50,000.”

The grandfather of three immediately went home and called Lottery headquarters to get instructions on what to do next. He then shared the news with his fiancé and the two of them traveled to Baltimore to claim the big prize. “He didn’t show me the ticket until we were on our way here,” said his fiancé.

The Cecil County resident plans to use the prize to pay bills and treat his grandchildren. The Lottery retailer is also a winner. For selling the top-prize ticket in the game, Elkton Fairhill Service located at 4428 Telegraph Road will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery.
