Errand Leads to Racetrax Riches

Hyattsville woman wins $30,446 prize on a Superfecta ticket

A Prince George’s County resident who was just thankful for the chance to get out of the house added a hefty dose of excitement to her day when she took a chance on the Lottery’s virtual horseracing game Racetrax. An errand, a quick trip and $1 in pocket change was all it took for a 57-year-old Hyattsville woman to walk away with a $30,446 Racetrax Superfecta prize.

The lucky winner said she spent most of last year working from home. The government employee said she has also been reducing her time away from home as a health precaution, but explained that after so much time in the house, she often jumps at the chance to take seemingly ordinary trips.

A few weeks ago, she decided to tag along when her sister asked her to get out of the house to run some errands. When they stopped Palmer Exxon in Landover, the lucky winner discovered a bit of pocket change and used it to purchase a $1 Racetrax ticket, playing a 1-9-10-11 Superfecta for a single race. And that $1 ticket managed to pull off the unexpected. The top four horses in her race finished in that exact order, delivering a $30,446 prize. The odds of the win, just 1 in 45,716.

The winner quickly double-checked the result using the store’s Lottery ticket checker. When she saw the result again, it was time to head home with her winning ticket.

“I got out of the store quickly and quietly,” said the winner, adding that the $30,446 prize will be helpful, allowing her to pay off some bills and add a healthy amount to her savings account.

Palmer Exxon, located at 7106 Martin Luther King Jr. Highway in Landover, has reason to celebrate as well. For selling a winning Racetrax ticket worth at least $10,000, the retailer will receive a $304.46 bonus from the Lottery – equal to 1% of the prize.
