Hyattsville man wins $30,000

A 44-year-old Hyattsville man is still in shock after scratching his way to a $30,000 top prize on the popular BinGo! game. Alex Alberto Amaya Guardado is a big fan of extended-play games, which is why he purchased the BinGo! scratch-off at his favorite retailer.

“I went there specifically to play a few scratch-offs and other Lottery games,” said Alex. “I saved the BinGo! for last.”

Alex unknowingly saved the BEST for last! He took his time with the instant ticket, scratching it there in New Hampshire Avenue Liquors where he likes to play his Lottery games.

“I thought it was only $1,000,” said the father of one, smiling. “But, when I looked closer, I saw it was $30,000.”

At this point, Alex was very happy but very nervous, so he and a friend quickly left the store and drove home. “I was really worried about him driving,” said Alex’s friend, who also accompanied him to Lottery headquarters to claim the prize.

The Hyattsville painter secured his ticket and proceeded to have a big celebration all weekend to commemorate his good fortune. Alex plans to use the $30,000 prize on a new car.

His lucky retailer located at 6501 New Hampshire Avenue is also a winner. For selling a top-prize scratch-off in the $2 game, the store will receive a $300 bonus from the Lottery.
