Family Birthdays Give Virginia Teacher an A+ Lottery Win

Claims 43rd $50,000 Bonus Match 5 top prize of 2019

She lives in Virginia but spends much of her time in Maryland, a teacher with the initials “P.S.” told Maryland Lottery officials. A holiday visit with family members in Glen Burnie gave “P.S.” an opportunity to buy a Bonus Match 5 ticket on Thanksgiving. It also set the stage for another trip across the Potomac River for a thoroughly unexpected visit to Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.

The lucky wife and mother won a $50,000 top prize in the Nov. 28 drawing!

“I swear to you that when it comes to stuff like this, my husband is the lucky one,” said the 58-year-old. On Thanksgiving, however, the collection of family birthdays she has long played in Lottery games sent good fortune her way. “When my husband checked the results on Friday morning and told me that I’d won, I was sure he was joking,” she said.

The two were 99 percent certain that the Thanksgiving night win was real. They stopped doubting their Lottery luck when the Lottery Customer Resource Center accepted their ticket for processing. Once they completed the paperwork, the Chesterfield, Va. pair relaxed. “Now it’s real,” said “P.S.” of her $50,000 top-prize win. “Now, I believe it.”

Our Virginia winner has a significant home improvement project in mind for her prize. This is the 43rd top-tier Bonus Match 5 win this year.

Her lucky ticket came from a 7-Eleven convenience store at 6930 Aviation Boulevard in Glen Burnie. The store, 7-Eleven #32090, received a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling the top-prize winning ticket.
