Family Birthdays Put Bowie Man in Lottery Winner’s Circle

Bowie’s Deandrea Julien celebrates a $21,082 Racetrax win.

“My dad is a big Lottery player and lucky,” said Deandrea Julien of Bowie, explaining why he decided to play Racetrax this week.

Deandrea can count himself lucky as well after winning $21,082 while hanging out with his father. “Now that I think about it, I only play when I’m with my dad, and I seem to win every time….but nothing like this,” said the Home Depot employee.

When it came time to pick his Racetrax horses on Tuesday, the 26-year-old formed a winning combination using a collection of family birthdays. “I love the track, I love horse racing, so when I do play, it’s Racetrax,” he said. “And, when I need numbers to pick – family comes first.”

He placed a $1 Superfecta wager that horses 3, 5, 7 and 11 would finish in that exact order.

Watching his race take place at Ardwick Liquors in Landover, the lucky racing fan was dismayed to see the Racetrax monitor go dark – just as the horses were thundering down the home stretch. “I knew that my four horses were up front, but so were a few others. It wasn’t until the results flashed up on the screen a minute later that I knew they’d crossed the finish line in the right order.”

As surprised as the Prince George’s County man was by the win, learning the amount of his prize was an absolute stunner. “The guy showed me the total, I couldn’t believe it.” When his dad realized his son’s luck, his first words were, “When are we going to cash our prize?”

Deandrea tells us that Christmas gifts for his family is #1 on the list of how he’ll make use of his $21,082 Racetrax prize. Every leftover cent will go in the bank, he said.

Also a winner is Ardwick Liquors located at 8307 Ardwick Ardmore Road in Landover. For selling a winning Racetrax ticket of $10,000 or more, the Prince George’s County retailer earns a $210.82 bonus from the Lottery. The bonus is equal to 1 percent of the prize.
