Family Time Turns into $50,000 Bonus Match 5 Win

Southern Maryland woman claims Maryland Lottery game’s top prize

A St. Mary’s County woman has a close relative to thank for her taxes-paid $50,000 Bonus Match 5 win on Saturday, Nov. 16. The Department of Defense contractor listened to her relative’s suggestion to buy the ticket.

The pair likes to meet on weekends to enjoy coffee and donuts while they play various Lottery games. “My relative told me to get a Bonus Match 5 ticket because of the taxes-paid promotion,” the young woman said, smiling.

Following her relative’s advice, the California (Md.) resident purchased three boards for $2 and waited for the drawing that evening. Imagine her surprise when she saw that she had won the $50,000 top prize.

“This is just very exciting. I won $50,000 through a second-chance contest a few years ago that my relative told me to enter,” she said.

Quick to pipe in, her relative, who accompanied her to Lottery headquarters, joked, “We’re lucky when we’re together!”

Both women agree that they were in the right place at the right time. The lucky winner isn’t quite sure what she plans to do with her winnings. “I’ll probably sit on it for a while. I’ll definitely pay some smalls bills and then do something fun,” she said.

The woman purchased her winning ticket and donuts at the Donut Connection located at 21800 N. Shangri La Dr. #21 in Lexington Park.
