Dundalk man claims top prize in 50X The Cash game
On his way to work last week, a Baltimore County resident stopped by a Canton convenience store to buy a drink and Maryland Lottery tickets. The restaurant employee plays just about every day, he told Lottery officials. While coming out ahead is not unusual for this lucky player, coming out $100,000 ahead is certainly new.
“I tried a FAST PLAY game first and won $20,” said the 50-year-old. “$10 went in my pocket and the other half to a scratch-off that I’d play at lunch.” The Dundalk man picked out a 50X The Cash game, which is a member of the popular Multiplier Family of Games.
“I’ve been winning with it recently and, even when I don’t, I can enter them into my My Lottery Rewards account,” he said. His purchase complete, the loyal player got in his truck to head to work. However, he changed his mind.
“I decided to scratch the ticket right then, I can’t tell you why.” Almost to the last row of numbers on the instant ticket, the player was about to chalk the scratch-off up as a non-winner when he uncovered his one and only match.
“I’ve had some heart trouble in the past, so when I saw the $100,000 prize I was worried about a heart attack. That’s how shocked I was.” Working to keep his breathing and heart rate under control, the big winner completed his drive to the restaurant and worked his shift without revealing a thing to his co-workers. “I surprised myself that I was able to keep it a secret.”
When asked how he planned to make use of his $100,000 prize, his answer was “bills and my daughter.”
The management of the Canton BP at 4700 O’Donnell Street in Baltimore City has a similar decision to make. The retailer receives a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling a top-prize winning scratch-off.
This is the third top prize claimed in the 50X The Cash game since its January 2020 debut. Four top prizes remain, as well as six $50,000 prizes and 24 $10,000 prizes. The game also features a second chance to win. Players can enter non-winning Multiplier Family of Games scratch-offs through My Lottery Rewards for a chance to win additional prizes in the Multiplier second-chance contest.
