Father and Son Outing Yields $50,000 Win for Carroll County Man

Charles Harris - Crossword Multiplier

“I’ve been lucky with scratch-offs in the past, especially with this game.
But nothing like this,” said Charles.

Who would get to the counter first – father or son? The son won the race, but the father won the prize. This scenario played out last week in Westminster and the real winner of the contest, Charles Harris, visited Lottery Headquarters today to claim his $50,000 Crossword Multiplier prize.

Mr. Harris and his son are big fans of Maryland Lottery scratch-offs, particularly of the Crossword Multiplier game. They went to their local Lottery retailer together and each stepped to the counter to pick their tickets. Mr. Harris told officials that he was a little slower than his son and watched him purchase four of their favorite ticket. “I got the very next Crossword Multiplier,” said Charles.

The two returned home where, with help from his wife, Charles scratched his ticket. “We didn’t get real excited when we saw what we’d won,” he told us. “We just didn’t believe it could be real.” A trip to their neighborhood Lottery retailer confirmed the win. “I’ve been lucky with scratch-offs in the past, especially with this game. But nothing like this.”

Charles’ Lottery luck found him at the House of Liquors in the Carroll Plaza Shopping Center in Westminster. The Harris family plans to pay off some bills and then visit family in Texas.
