Federal Worker From Baltimore Wins $10,000 Monopoly Prize

Scratch-off fan finds Lottery luck on the way home from work

A Baltimore resident has her boyfriend to thank for winning a $10,000 prize on the Maryland Lottery’s $10 Monopoly scratch-off ticket.

The lucky winner’s boyfriend picked her up after work one day a couple of weeks ago and handed her $20 to buy Lottery scratch-offs. She chose two $10 games from Lottery retailer Woodlawn Shell in Baltimore. While she didn’t win anything on the first instant ticket, the Monopoly scratch-off delivered the big prize. The federal government worker scratched the instant ticket as her boyfriend was driving.

“I looked at it three times, I couldn’t believe it,” she said. “I told him, ‘I think I won $10,000,’ and he said ‘Yeah, right!’ ”

But it was true. She first scratched the five Monopoly Numbers, and then one by one scratched off the Your Numbers section. When she matched the number 24, she proceeded to scratch off the corresponding prize and found $10,000 waiting for her.

“He didn’t believe me, but I said, ‘Look, 24 and 24. I won,’” she said. The scratch-off fan’s largest previous prize was $500 on a ticket she bought about a year ago. The lucky winner said she plans to use the prize to pay bills.

The 55-year-old purchased her lucky ticket at Woodlawn Shell, located at 6600 Security Boulevard. The $10 Monopoly scratch-off is part of a family of Monopoly games that launched in June. There are also $1, $2, $5 and $20 Monopoly scratch-off options. The $10 game has five unclaimed $100,000 top prizes and 10 more $10,000 prizes, in addition to thousands of other prizes ranging from $10 to $1,000.
