Surprises sister with news of Maryland Lottery prize
One lucky Parkville resident couldn’t believe her eyes as she watched the late-night Powerball drawing live on television station WBAL. One after another, her numbers appeared on the screen. By the end of the Aug. 2 drawing, her ticket matched four of the numbers drawn, plus the red Powerball, to give her a $10,000 prize.
The retired winner plays the Lottery a few times a week. For this drawing, she purchased several tickets at a Giant Food store in the Baltimore area. One of those tickets was the lucky winner.
“I called my sister as soon as I watched the drawing,” said the 65-year-old. “Since it was so late, she thought something was wrong. She was in for a huge surprise when I told her why I was calling!”
The self-proclaimed feisty grandmother of three said she was “thrilled to death” about the win. After leaving Lottery headquarters with her sister, she planned to deposit the check at the bank and save the winnings. She found her lucky ticket at Giant located at 1400 Merritt Blvd. in Dundalk.
