Hurlock woman wins $20,000 playing Star Spangled Tripler scratch-off

Lutitia Fletcher was one of thousands of Marylanders thinking about the War of 1812 on Friday evening. Most were attending Sailabration in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor to commemorate the pivotal historic event.  Lutitia was scratching her Star Spangled Tripler scratch-off, honoring the famed conflict, when the patriotic $2 instant ticket yielded the first of its $10,000 top prizes. And, since it was purchased during the Maryland Lottery’s $2 Top Prize Doubler promotion, Lutitia walked away with $20,000. “I had no idea,” Lutitia told Lottery officials.  “I didn’t know until I got here that I’d won $20,000. I was happy with $10,000,” she said with a laugh.

Lutitia bought five of the Star Spangled Tripler tickets at around 8:30 pm on Friday, but didn’t scratch them until about 10:30 that evening. “I scratched number one, then number two, then number three,” said Lutitia. “Number four – still nothing. Then number five and it was ‘Whooooo!”

The 46-year-old spoke enthusiastically about her winning moment saying, “I was running through my house screaming!” Declaring this her biggest win to date, the scratch-off fan couldn’t contain her gratefulness. “Thank you Jesus,” she said. “This is a blessing.”

The mother-of-one, who was accompanied to Lottery Headquarters by her best friend, shared the news with her mother and father — who reaped the benefit of extra Father’s Day gifts.  Lutitia said her church will also benefit from her generosity, “I’m going to give God his 10%,” said the winner.  “The rest? I’m just going to enjoy it.”

The winning ticket was purchased at Universal Preston, located at 101 Maple Ave. in Preston.
