Baltimore resident Patsy Smithwick plays the Lottery’s Pick 4 every once in a while, but had never played Bonus Match 5 before and actually had no intention of doing so. But, three little words changed that and with it, her bank balance. “I was with my friend and he said, “’Take a chance,’” said Patsy.
She took his advice and won $50,000 on her inaugural play. “I’m still trying to digest it, said the 60-year-old. “I checked the numbers on the Lottery’s website and saw I matched all five numbers. I felt like I couldn’t move.” Patsy shared the good news with her mom, for whom she is a caregiver, but hasn’t had the opportunity to tell her friend that his suggestion led to her good fortune. “I’m going to tell him this afternoon,” said the mother-of-one. A breast cancer survivor, Patsy said the gentlemen has also been a blessing in the past, helping her during her illness.
The endoscopy technician has “no big real plans” for the money aside from purchasing some new appliances and helping her daughter and grandchildren. The happy winner also has her first great-grandchild on the way, yet another reason for celebration.
The winning ticket was purchased at Irvington Cut Rate Liquors, located at 4100 Frederick Rd. in Baltimore.
