South Carolina resident wins $30,000 on Fruit Twist Crossword
An excited Tenika Evans arrived at Lottery headquarters today to claim her first-ever Lottery win. Evans, who was happy to share her story, casually added one important and exciting detail — her $30,000 win came from the first and only Lottery ticket she’s ever purchased.
Ms. Evans, a South Carolina resident, has been in Maryland visiting her mother in Baltimore City for the past week. The mother-of-two young sons was running errands when she stopped at a local gas station. After paying for gas and picking up a few items, she decided to purchase a $3 scratch-off ticket. “I play Sudoku all of the time and the ticket just reminded me of it,” she said. After scratching it in the store and realizing she had won, she looked at her mother and quietly said “Let’s go!” Evans had her mother, a regular Lottery player, double-check the ticket at home before believing that she was $30,000 richer.

The middle school math teacher said that the win couldn’t have come at a better time. She and her fiancé, a truck driver, were concerned about paying for their upcoming wedding. “I’m on maternity leave and money is tight. This win will pay for our wedding, honeymoon and allow us to put money in the bank.” Ms. Evans said she couldn’t wait to go home and share her excitement with her fiancé. “This has been great, but I’m ready to go home!”
The winning ticket was purchased at Erdman CITGO at 4501 Erdman Avenue in Baltimore City.
