First-Time Racetrax Player Gallops to a Victory

Popular game delivers $14,154 win to Baltimore County woman

A Baltimore County Racetrax novice entered the Maryland Lottery Winner’s Circle after playing her husband’s lucky numbers on a Trifecta bet. The first-time player won $14,154!

“He’s an expert and plays all the time,” she said of her husband. “Yesterday, I decided to give it a try.”

The social worker’s husband gave her a group of numbers to play when they stopped at Woodlawn Shell in Baltimore County. The 46-year-old decided to play horses 12, 11 and 1 for 20 races. The big winner didn’t stick around to see the races take place but opted to check her ticket later on the Lottery website.

“My husband helped check the ticket for me,” she said. “He looked at me and said, ‘You won!’ ”

The mother of two wanted to know the size of her prize but her husband wasn’t sure of the amount. They waited until the next morning to scan the ticket at a Lottery retailer and then claimed the prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.

The Windsor Mill resident is having a birthday next month and says she will use some of the winnings to celebrate. The rest of her prize will go to savings.

The Lottery retailer that sold the winning ticket can celebrate, too. Woodlawn Shell, located at 6600 Security Boulevard, earns a $141.54 bonus from the Lottery for selling a winning Racetrax ticket of $10,000 or more. The bonus is equal to 1 percent of the prize.
