Couple collect big prize on Black scratch-off
When an auto finance manager from Forest Hill got a call at work from his wife asking him to come home as soon as possible, he wasn’t sure what to think. She quickly clued him in on the situation: She had purchased a $20 Maryland Lottery Black scratch-off from a 7-Eleven in Fallston and it was her lucky day.
“She said, ‘I think we won $50,000’ and she was looking for some verification,” he said, adding that his wife told him it was an early Veterans Day present.
The U.S. Army veteran, who served two tours of duty in Vietnam, came to Lottery headquarters on the day before Veterans Day to claim the prize for the two of them. He enjoys playing the Lottery’s Pick 3 and Pick 4 games and his wife, who is a nurse, is the family’s avid scratch-off player. She recently won $1,000 on a $1 scratch-off! They also enjoy playing the Lottery’s Ravens scratch-offs and enter non-winning Ravens tickets into the game’s second-chance contests.
“We’re hoping to win season tickets, and when she called me and asked me to come home I thought that’s what she was going to tell me,” he said.
The lucky pair collected the final $50,000 prize on the Black ticket, which launched nearly one year ago. There is still one $1 million top prize remaining along with one $10,000 prize. The Harford County husband said he is “trying to retire” and plans to put the prize into savings. Want to try your luck at that 7-Eleven?
