Wins $20,000 on Wild Cherries scratch-off on last day of $2 Top Prize Doubler
The clock was ticking and Benjamin Proctor didn’t even know it. The Forestville man arrived at Lottery Headquarters today and described how a series of fortunate events added up to his $20,000 win on the Wild Cherries scratch-off.
Benjamin’s day began pretty typically with the 57-year-old sitting at home watching TV when he decided to go play his Lottery numbers. While at the retailer, he looked in his wallet and discovered an extra $20, so he bought two $5 scratch-offs, two $3 scratch-offs, and two $2 scratch-offs.

He proceeded to scratch the tickets and had a “Wow!” moment upon revealing what he thought was a $10,000 prize. Benjamin then called his brother to share the good news, who encouraged him to confirm his win. “Usually I save my tickets, but this time I decided to redeem it,” said Benjamin. But, when he attempted to cash his ticket at a retailer, he was told to go to Lottery Headquarters.
Still thinking he was $10,000 richer, Benjamin received a call from his children’s babysitter. “She told me about the $2 top Prize Doubler promotion and that my ticket was worth double.” Referring to his propensity for waiting to claim his tickets, he added, “I would have only won $10,000 if it wasn’t for her.” The last day to receive double the money was today — July 31, 2012.
With his winnings, Benjamin plans to contribute to his stepchild’s college education and help fund a cruise for his wife. The winning ticket was purchased at Sandhu, located at 3004 Forestville Rd. in Forestville.
