Ellicott City man claims $20,000 prize from November drawing
Curiosity about the new MONOPOLY MILLIONAIRES’ CLUB™ game put a $20,000 winning ticket in the pocket of an Ellicott City man, making him one of five $20,000 winners nationwide in the Nov. 21 drawing. His celebration was delayed, however – he forgot to check his numbers!
The 53-year-old had played the game a few times, not really knowing how to play, when he bought the lucky ticket.
“I was wondering about this Monopoly game, because it was new,” said the big winner. “I added it to the weekly games that I play, not even knowing the rules.”
After purchasing his weekly tickets at Troy Farms Liquors, which is located at 6161 Meadowridge Road in Elkridge, the lucky player pocketed them and went about his day. He forgot to check his numbers until a week later, when his wife reminded him to do so.
“It was the day after Thanksgiving when we finally checked them,” he said. “The Monopoly ticket said to go to the Lottery to cash!”
The computer consultant wasn’t sure how much he’d won until he went home and checked the Lottery’s website, mdlottery.com. He was Maryland’s only $20,000 winner! The Howard County resident locked the ticket in a safe place until he could claim his prize.
The laid-back player said he plans to use his winnings for home improvements and will put the rest in the bank. “Christmas is already taken care of,” he said, smiling.
MONOPOLY MILLIONAIRES’ CLUB is a national drawing-style game that gives players three ways to become a millionaire. First, players can win the weekly Friday night drawing with top prizes ranging from $15 million to $25 million. Next, players could win the special Millionaires’ Club drawing that awards 10 or more $1 million prizes whenever the top prize is hit. The third way to win $1 million is by appearing on the Monopoly Millionaires’ Game Show in Las Vegas and winning the show’s final round! For details, visit playmmc.com.
