Fortunate Friends find $50,000 Powerball Prize in Time for the Holidays

Split prize from Dec. 14 drawing

“Grateful” and “happy” is how a group of longtime Maryland Lottery players describe themselves after winning a $50,000 prize in the Dec. 14 Powerball drawing. The Maryland trio — Patricia, Kim and Theresa — and a fourth anonymous player have pooled their cash to play Powerball together for over 12 years.

The group plays Powerball weekly, regardless of the jackpot amount. “When we’ve played in the past, we’ve won small prizes here and there, $5, $20,” said Theresa. “The biggest prize before this was $150.”

When the 38-year-old checked the winning numbers, she discovered $50,000 worth of matches. She called Patricia and Kim to confirm that Lottery luck had brought them a holiday surprise. They read the winning numbers aloud to each other multiple times!

The fourth member of their group was unable to join them to claim the prize. The three women who enjoyed their time in the Winner’s Circle at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore say they will give a share of the prize to the absent member. The women, who hail from Brandywine, Hughesville and Waldorf, say they will use their share of the prize to pay off bills, beef up their savings accounts and enjoy the holidays with their families.

Their lucky purchase took place at Fort Washington Liquors located at 10200 Old Fort Road in Fort Washington. Try your luck this weekend with Powerball. No one has hit the Powerball jackpot, which rolled to $171 million for the Saturday, Dec. 21 drawing.
