Many people spent the Fourth of July holiday at barbecues, viewing fireworks or enjoying time with family and friends. Juan Antonio Batres Morales, 31, of Salisbury was probably doing some of those things, but there’s no doubt that he was also celebrating his good luck after winning a $50,000 top prize on the $500 Frenzy scratch-off game.
Early on the morning of July 2, Juan stopped at the Royal Farms store at 901 Snow Hill Road in Salisbury to pick up a few items and decided to purchase some scratch-off games. He bought four $500 Frenzy scratch-off tickets and scratched them in the store.
Like many others, Juan likes to scratch the winning numbers first to see if there’s a match, and then he proceeds to scratch the rest of the ticket to reveal the prize amounts. He matched one of the numbers and was in shock at the prize he saw.
“It was $50,000!” said Juan. “I didn’t believe what I saw.”
The lucky player excitedly ran out of the store to show his family and friends who were waiting in the car. He needed a second opinion and they confirmed that Juan’s eyes weren’t deceiving him. The construction worker tucked the ticket away in his pocket and visited Lottery headquarters in Baltimore the next day to claim the prize. Juan, a father of two, said he plans to use his good fortune to help family and friends.
The $500 Frenzy is a $5 ticket that launched in May, and there are still five remaining unclaimed $50,000 top prizes, along with seven unclaimed $5,000 prizes, 15 $1,000 prizes and thousands of additional prizes ranging from $5 to $500!
The Royal Farms store where Juan purchased his ticket is also a winner. The Wicomico County retailer will receive a $500 bonus for selling the winning $500 Frenzy scratch-off ticket.
