Baltimore grandmother celebrates $10,000 prize on $2 game
Quite a scene erupted around the backyard picnic table of a Dundalk grandmother of four on the day she came home from work with a special batch of Maryland Lottery scratch-offs.
The production technician at a Baltimore company purchased several tickets that day from the Wise Avenue Citgo in Baltimore. Among them was a $100 Frenzy scratch-off selected because of its colorful appearance and the fact that she’d never played the game before. She sat down at the picnic table with one of her adult daughters, pulled out the tickets and the two loyal scratch-off players went to work.
The very first number our winner revealed on the $2 game matched one of the ticket’s winning numbers, giving her a $1,000 prize.
“I just won $1,000,” the 52-year-old said, showing the ticket to her daughter. She resumed her big reveal and uncovered prizes of $1,000 and $5,000 hiding under the next two numbers. By the time all of the prizes were revealed, the two women were experiencing a frenzy of emotions!
“We were laughing, crying, shaking – all of it,” the daughter said.
The mother of three adult children plans to put most of her prize in the bank and book a mother-daughter weekend in Ocean City. The winner added that her father passed away this spring, and she and her daughter both wondered if “Pop” had anything to do with the lucky purchase. They dubbed the win “Pop’s Surprise.”
“I do think this is from Pop,” the daughter said. “He says we needed to go on vacation!”
The lucky winner plans to keep playing scratch-offs at her favorite – and now her lucky – Lottery retailer, Wise Avenue Citgo. The Baltimore County retailer is located at 220 Wise Avenue in Baltimore.
The $100 Frenzy game has three more unclaimed $10,000 top prizes and thousands of other prizes ranging from $2 to $5,000. A member of the Lottery’s Frenzy family of games, the $100 Frenzy instant ticket is joined by the $1 $50 Frenzy, $5 $500 Frenzy and $10 $1,000 Frenzy scratch-offs.
