Catonsville’s Horace Simms Jr. plans to share half of his $20,200 win with his wife!

Winner claims $20,200 top prize on 2020 Cash game

Luck shined on a 47-year-old Catonsville man last Friday who stopped at a Lottery retailer in Baltimore County when he got off work. Horace Simms Jr., who enjoys playing Maryland Lottery games, bought a Racetrax ticket and one 2020 Cash scratch-off because it was new.

“The commercials for that game are cool,” Horace told Lottery officials after claiming his $20,200 top prize from his lucky scratch-off. “That’s one of the reasons why I bought one.”

Horace pocketed his tickets from Rt. 40 BP in Catonsville that night and went home. The restaurant employee normally scratches off his instant tickets, but, on this evening, he scanned the game’s prize check area first. A very interesting message appeared.

“It said to see the Lottery agent,” said the married father. “I was curious so I downloaded the other Lottery App and when I scanned the ticket, it showed a $20,200 prize.”

In shock and excited, the lucky winner kept his feelings inside because it was late and he didn’t want to wake his teenage son and wife. Instead, he put the scratch-off in the dresser and rested until the next day.

“I then told my wife, who thought I was joking until I showed her the ticket,” said Horace. “She turned to me and said, ‘So, how much will I get?’ ” The giving husband actually plans to give his wife half of the winnings. And, with his half, he plans to get caught up on some bills.

Plenty of top prizes remain for 2020 Cash players. Of the 212 top prizes the $20 game originally offered, 180 are still available. The New Year-themed ticket debuted on Nov. 18.

His lucky Lottery retailer is celebrating its big sale. Rt. 40 BP at 5612 Baltimore National Pike in Catonsville earns a $200 bonus for selling a top-prize winning scratch-off of $20,200. The bonus is equal to 1 percent of the prize.
