Gas Station Worker Pumped Up over $10,000 Scratch-off Win

Mawanana De Silva - Black_webCongrats to Mawanana De Silva of Frederick, who won $10,000 on a Black instant ticket.

Claims prize on Black instant ticket

A Frederick man who is a loyal Powerball and Mega Millions player listened to his intuition a few months ago when he walked into a Maryland Lottery retailer in Mount Airy and spotted a Black scratch-off ticket.

The $20 game, which carries a last claim date of July 4, had already given Mawanana De Silva several nice wins including one for $500.

“I went to the temple and on my way home I went to Twin Arch (Spirits),” said the gas station employee. The 44-year-old said he felt drawn to the ticket so he bought it. Following his habit, he scratched off the ticket’s QR code in the store, which is located at 1001 Twin Arch Road in Mount Airy. The married father of twins scanned the code on the ticket-checker machine and saw the “Cash at Lottery” message. He had a big winner!

“I was so excited!” Mawanana said. “I kept scratching the rest of the ticket.”

The lucky man said he kept the ticket in a safe place for three or four months because he wanted to claim his $10,000 prize in 2016. He’s not decided yet what he will do with his prize but has shared his great news with his family.
