The state’s newest millionaire made an appearance at Maryland Lottery headquarters this week, celebrating with her family the life-changing $1 million scratch-off win that kept her awake for more than 24 hours. Although it deprived her of sleep, the winning Cash Explosion instant ticket has provided a tremendous sense of relief for the Montgomery County housekeeper.

A lucky feeling led her to select the scratch-off, which was one of many games in the instant ticket vending machine at E&C Mid-Atlantic #7301 in Germantown. An ecstatic, but uncertain feeling followed her home once she scratched off her instant ticket.

“I wanted my husband to look at it, just to be sure,” said the 34-year-old. The family gathered to examine the instant ticket and then gathered closer to share the joy that nearly overwhelmed them.

“We saw that is was real, that it really was a winner, but we could barely believe it,” she said. “To win $1 million? How could it be happening?”

The husband and wife told Lottery officials that the $1 million win would not lead to big changes in their lives. The couple will pay off their house much earlier than expected but plan to continue working. One thing, though, will definitely change – the winner’s son has a birthday coming up. “It’s now going to be an extra special day!” she said.

Her lucky retailer also shares in the big win. For selling a top-prize scratch-off in the game, E&C Mid-Atlantic located at 20510 Frederick Road earns a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery.

The Cash Explosion game still has five unclaimed $1 million top prizes in Maryland stores, 11 $50,000 prizes and 46 $10,000 prizes. Players can also seek the thousands of other prizes ranging from $20 to $5,000.
